Ann-Marie Powell qualified with Distinction in Hard Landscape Studies and Garden Design in 1995 from London’s Capel Manor College. After working for the prestigious wholesale plant Nursery Tendercare, in 1999 she set up her own garden design practice, Ann-Marie Powell Gardens, which continues to go from strength to strength. Ann-Marie has written extensively on garden design, plants and hard landscape. So far she has produced three books. Hardscape – Hard Landscaping for the Garden, explores the use of hard landscape materials in the garden, whist Urban Gardens showcases a diverse portfolio of her city garden solutions, whilst her third book, Recipes for a Small Garden will be published in the UK and Europe in 2010. As an expert in garden design and construction Ann-Marie has written, and featured regularly in national newspapers and magazines including The Times, The Guardian, The Observer, Elle Decoration and The Scottish Herald, alongside internet, gardening and lifestyle magazines. She is the gardening columnist for leading women’s lifestyle magazine, Prima. Ann-Marie has appeared extensively on television since 1998, presenting over 20 different garden design, garden history and gardening programmes on terrestrial channels. Most recently her television accolades include the live coverage of the Chelsea Flower Show for BBC1 and co-presenting and judging the live Channel4 series The Great Garden Challenge, the biggest garden design competition in the UK.
