To me gardens are for people – healing, welcoming spaces to switch off, contemplate and enjoy growing plants within the great outdoors. The RHS’s vision statement is ‘to enrich everyone’s life through plants, and make the UK a greener and more beautiful place”. People, and their joy in growing plants are key in achieving this aim.

The potting shed’ in our conceptual front garden signifies a garage, but instead of finding a car within these four walls, you’ll find a potting shed, complete with potting benches, tools and all the accoutrements required to tend a garden. The space will have a human touch – I hope it will appear as if the gardener who spends their time here, has simply popped out to make a cup of tea.

But what to include within this plantsman’s little piece of propagating paradise? I wanted to partner with a company who took pride in their products, a company who had the needs of the gardener at its core, and a long, dependable, horticultural history. I reached for the phone and immediately called Harrod Horticultural.

Who are Harrod Horticultural?

At the heart of Harrod Horticultural’s range are innovative products that are designed and manufactured at their site in Lowestoft, Suffolk, using 60+ years of experience. These include structures (garden arches, pergolas, obelisks, fruit and vegetable cages to name but a few) for the kitchen and ornamental gardens that are renowned for striking the ideal balance between decoration and functionality, providing inspiration to gardens all around the world. Their passion and investment in garden product design means they are constantly innovating and refining their range. They have a host of gardening tools, every piece an asset to the gardener’s year, and it is these that we are including in the potting shed. There’ll be propagators, trugs and rakes, alongside seed starting kits and shears. Tools for any gardener to treasure and support them in a lifetime of gardening. Harrod Horticultural’s motto is ‘Whatever it takes’ and this sings through their product’s quality, their staff and their tools – we love them for it.
