The new spa at Sopwell House Hotel is opening its doors, following a £14m investment project.
Cottonmill is a new three-storey, private members spa, which offers two tiers of memberships to both hotel guests and non-residents.
Sparcstudio, a privately-owned, creative, design studio that has established an enviable reputation for producing highly successful, creative and award winning Spas, Wellness/Fitness, Hotel and Resort facilities have designed the interior spa experience. Cottonmill is undoubtably one of 2019’s most highly anticipated spa openings, bringing together innovative experiences, contemporary design, diverse relaxation spaces, modern dining and a new spa garden designed by Ann-Marie Powell Gardens.
The outdoor area of the Spa at Sopwell House is designed to compliment Sparcstudio’s interior, enhance the existing countryside views, the plant selections within the gardens of the spa, contain large swathes of planting borders, newly planted statement trees and native hedges. The concept outside is simple but stunning with luxurious relaxation areas, communal and private hot tubs, impressive water features, a central walkway with rill, and a chill-out fire-pit zone incorporating fire.
Designed by Ann-Marie Powell Gardens principal, it was essential that all of the elements of Sparcstudio’s Spa, the Spa garden and the existing environment worked together in complete harmony:
“Sustainability is a fundamental value within the Sopwell Spa Garden – Looking after the environment is a way of ensuring that the activity at Sopwell House is always respectful of the nature and riches found at its destination.
Embracing the results of the May 2016 report commissioned from the King’s Fund which confirms the benefits of gardens on health and psyche, the gardens aim to create wellness of mind, body and soul by connecting visitors with nature.
Local influence is further accentuated through the addition of water in the landscape scheme, soothing the human psyche with its cooling tranquil properties enhancing mood and relaxation.”
Cottonmill will automatically be available for use by hotel guests and facilities include two vitality pools, a sauna, steam room and relaxation areas, as well as a gym, relaxation room, dining space and treatment rooms.
Access to the more premium, The Club at Cottonmill, will be on offer for hotel residents for an extra charge.
Features within The Club at Cottonmill comprise a thermal suite with four new steam rooms and saunas, a deep relaxation room, whisper room and garden room.
Cottonmill has partnered with ELEMIS, ESPA and Aromatherapy Associates, with signature treatments based around the ‘soothing and healing powers of sand and water’.
The spa will also be the first in the UK to introduce treatments on an Amber & Quartz Crystal Bed, which delivers thermal therapy by immersing the body in hot sand.
Specific treatments will include Cottonmill Sound & Sand, during which the bed gently vibrates while singing bowls are chimed, and the ELEMIS Quartz Poultice Massage, which incorporates warm quartz poultices to increase circulation and release tense muscles.
Water massages have also been created with the Vichy massage shower.
Cottonmill will also be home to the rose relaxation room, where walls are lined with acoustic ‘petals’ and zones are divided by rose-tinted glass screens.
Dressing rooms feature Tom Dixon marble wall lights, with stone heated flooring and Dornbracht showers and Dyson Supersonic hairdryers.
Sopwell House is run by the Bejerano family, headed up by brothers Rafi and Alon, and was first opened in 1986 by their father Abraham.
