Ann-Marie Powell is delighted to be included in The Daily Mail‘s RHS Chelsea Flower Show Special on Saturday 16th May 2020.
Ann-Marie Powell, 48, lives in Petersfield, Hampshire, with her partner Jules, 52, and their two sons. She says:
‘When we had a new extension, all the building materials were stored in the garden. It was a mess! I felt slightly ashamed and had to force myself to ignore it.
But since lockdown I’ve had time to really revel in creating a new garden. The front is shade: quite a wild space that rolls down a bank to the pavement,
I like to make people feel brighter as they walk by, There’s a huge, heavily scented rhododendron, shade-loving hostas, hellebores, ferns and lady’s mantel.
The back is much sunnier. In the south facing borders are tangerine geum, purple allium, rudbeckia, echinacea – ad in the north-facing ones, large-leafed plants like ferns and rodgersia. I’m quite maximalist.
TOP TIPS: Don’t worry what anyone else is doing in their garden, and don’t feel envious about what they are planting. Just enjoy planting yours as you lie it. There’s always someone who will enthuse you – and there’ always something new to learn.”
