LUXURY BOUTIQUE HOTEL SPA GARDEN AND SUITES

Family owned luxury Hertfordshire hotel, Sopwell House is conceived as ‘Your country home from home’. Our brief was to create a unique, boutique garden experience for their discerning and design-savvy guests.

The private communal gardens of ‘The Mews’ are a sanctuary of peace and quiet, enclosed by pleached hornbeam trees, yew hedging and bespoke woven oak fences. Access into these exclusive gardens is a relaxing journey in itself, all designed by our studio. Guests pass through bespoke automated steel gates down an avenue of bespoke terracotta urns, passing a contemporary water feature and on to an outdoor Hydrotherapy pool.

The private gardens include sole-use terraces with hot tubs for many of the suites, each accessed through their own oak front gate and courtyard. We also selected the personal post boxes, and suite names on the wall.

The communal area features a large garden spa, includes an in-house designed sculptural water wall and jets. Our team at Ann-Marie Powell Gardens  designed, selected and sourced all of the features,  including sculpture, bespoke urns, Manutti furniture and rugs and exquisite lighting after dark.

The spa garden planting is naturalistic in style, colourful and highly seasonal for year-round interest, including pleached hornbeam trees for privacy, exclusivity and a polished finish. Yew topiary ‘onions’ are unusual, quirky and fun, whilst umbrella-trained trees provide shelter and shade for more private areas of the landscape. Zoned irrigation was designed into the scheme and installed according to our services plan, which also included zoned lighting circuits.

This was our first ‘concept to delivery’ project for Sopwell House and we’re thrilled with the result. We continue to work with the hotel team in delivering more high-end commercial garden experiences to support their business, reflect their reputation and brand ethos, and provide their guests with a slice of luxury.
