What a Show!
We here at Ann-Marie Powell Gardens are so proud and thankful to announce that we have been bestowed with the greatest award of all…
The People’s Choice Award at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024
Thank you to everyone who voted for our garden, we are so touched to find that you all love it just as much as we do.
It is so wonderful to see how the public have connected with our garden through our plants. Planting is the soul of our designs and we set about this design aiming to bring colour back to Main Avenue at RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
With breakdown underway and press day in the rear-view mirror, we are so proud of what we have accomplished.
Where Would We Be Without Plants?
At the heart of all RHS Show Gardens there is an innate love of plants.
In our studio, we have a deep appreciation for plants. They not only offer aesthetic appeal through their vibrant colours and textures, but also contribute to the flourishing of local biodiversity. Our designs aim to incorporate a diverse array of plant species that bloom and thrive throughout the changing seasons, creating a dynamic and ever-evolving tapestry of colour and life.
By selecting plants that cater to the diverse needs of local wildlife, we not only create visually stunning landscapes but also contribute to the preservation of our delicate ecological balance. Our studio‘s commitment to incorporating biodiversity-friendly planting designs serves as a testament to our belief that beauty and environmental stewardship can coexist harmoniously.
So for an RHS Chelsea Show Garden we can only have the best, and we couldn’t have achieved this without our wonderful suppliers, most especially our dear friends at Hortus Loci.
Hortus Loci is a wholesale plant nursery working with landscape architects, garden designers and landscapers.
They arguably have one of the largest available ranges of perennials, shrubs, trees, topiary and hedging, most of which are grown on their 17 acre site located in North Hampshire.
They have been with us throughout this journey, sourcing, growing, tending to, and caring for all these plants for months on end. Despite all the treacherous weather we have had, and the unwavering unpredictability of the natural world, Mark Straver and his amazing team have managed to provide us with over 5000 plants. Nevermind, the seven enormous specimen trees, the 12ft climbers and all the tiny crevice filling plants spread throughout the garden.
We have Lincolnshire Pond Plants to thank for our pond looking to green and lucious. And despite the hiccup of not being able to use Gunnera manicata at any RHS shows, they provided us with some excellent alternatives: such as Rheum palmatum whose impressive leaves create perfect shelter for wildlife.
And lastly, but not least! We would like to thank Rymer Trees for so many gorgeous irises and more. Every single one carefully grown by hand. They made the trip down from Thetford to deliver the plants to site and watch them be placed into the scheme. It was so worth it!
We must thank our two brilliant sponsors, Blue Diamond Garden Centres and the National Trust. They entrusted us with creating this beautiful garden over a year ago and we are so grateful for this opportunity.
And thank you again, all of you, who have welcomed Octavia Hill’s message into your lives and have shown us so much support and love for our garden.
Thank you so much once again.
Warmest Regards,
Ann-Marie, Mary, Gemma and Penny.
