Led by international garden designer Ann-Marie Powell, our experienced landscape architects and garden designers are dedicated to realising your dream outdoor space. Read on to learn more about our garden design process.

Our turnkey design to delivery service takes our bespoke garden designs and turns them into stunning reality with minimal fuss or disturbance to you.

Where required, we can manage every project from conception to completion working closely with your chosen contractor to deliver your new scheme, while you relax and watch as your new garden emerges phoenix-like from the old, revitalising and breathing new joy into your outdoor space.

Though each of our gardens are unique, our garden design process tends to follow the same pattern. We meticulously plan every design down to the last detail and create documentation and imagery that keeps you in the picture from start to finish, and delivers a well-communicated, considered scheme that is highly individual and unique to your requirements.

  • We meet with you to discover what you love, what you need and what you like to ‘do’ in the garden.
  • We listen to your brief, down to the last detail, and take serious note of your garden design budget and timescales.
  • We don our wellies and explore your outdoor space, country garden, business estate or hotel grounds, spotting the potential to revitalise it, improve it, or radically overhaul it.

Garden Design Consultation

We visit you to see your garden first-hand and discuss your requirements, aspirations and key objectives in detail. After this meeting we will send you a written brief and design fee proposal for the first stage of design works (Design Concepts through to Masterplan).

Garden Design Brief

Our comprehensive brief is emailed and posted as a bound document to you. It includes a full breakdown and explanation of how the design process will work, along with our fee structure for included design works. This document ensures that we have fully understood your requirements and is the basis for our engagement by you.

Garden and Landscape Survey

Alongside our brief and site photos, a topographical survey is required for all our garden designs. This provides an accurate map of your site, including your buildings walls, doors and windows (including heights), level changes, existing trees, utilities and services. This drawing forms the basis for accurate design works, and when costing and building your new garden design. We do not have an in-house surveyor, but are happy to arrange this service on your behalf.

Design Concept leading to Masterplan

Our various design concepts, precedent images, mood boards, plans and sketches are delivered and discussed with you at length to ensure you have a clear overview of how your finished garden will look. This is a discussion document that will lead to your final agreed Masterplan. The Masterplan is your blueprint for the spatial arrangement of your garden – showing exactly where areas of hard landscaping, planting, and other garden features will be.

3D illustrations & CGI

On request we can create 3D illustrations of your scheme to help you visualise the scheme or, if required, to engage planning officials and potential buyers alike. 3D visuals are not included in our standard design package but we are more than happy to produce these as an additional service.

Planning Advice & Applications

Many of our projects require planning approval and we fully understand the myriad of permissions and restrictions for any structural alterations, planting or restoration projects. We can navigate the red tape to ensure your design and application is compliant, whether for new developments, Paragraph 79 exceptional new houses, Ancient Scheduled Monuments or Listed Buildings.

Detailed Design

At this stage, we will advise you on your final material selections and produce detailed construction drawings, sections, elevations, specifications and schedules for every element of the garden. This allows you to send out a full package of drawings to contractors that they can use to cost and build the garden. Every element of the project is considered from paving finishes to lighting and irrigation, elevating the garden design from good to exceptional. A fixed fee is provided for these works before detailed design works commence.

Garden Lighting Design

Our Lighting Location Plans and specifications will add a whole after dark dimension to your dimension. The addition of light to any garden creates a wonderful extra room at night and adds a wonderful new perspective as dusk falls, whether summer or winter.

Irrigation Design

Whilst we strive to ensure that our designs use plants that should not require huge irrigation systems once established, all young plants need watering when first planted to protect your investment in your garden.

Our irrigation systems are designed to conserve water while providing your plants with the right amount of moisture they need to thrive.

Planting Plans

Detailed planting plans and schedules are produced for your garden right down to the pot size to be supplied. Mood boards give a feel of the scheme and a maintenance schedule can be produced to ensure you, or your gardener, is confident in looking after your garden for years to come.

Contractor Tendering

You are of course free to appoint your own contractors to do the work. Or we can recommend the very best hard landscape subcontractors to guarantee a quality finish to your garden build. On your instruction, we will forward your package of drawings and specifications for tender. Then we will produce a tender report so you are fully equipped to make your choice of contractor.

Garden Build Site Inspections

A site inspection service is available during build, to take the stress away from you as the client. We visit site to ensure the project is built to the correct standards in accordance with the specification and drawings. This is to control the quality of the work and allows us as the designers to be responsive to any changes caused by the site or originating from you as the client. This service can be as limited to three site visits throughout the course of the entire project or be as extensive as weekly-minuted meetings with client and contractor.
